This fantastic ukulele is a one of a kind in many special ways.
The Wood – The back and sides are made from all solid highly figured Mahogany from the most famous wood in the word – The Tree. This wood has amazing figure and has the density and properties of rosewood in its’ tone as well. The top is fine grain, old growth Port Orford Cedar. It has a Spanish Cedar Neck, Koa Bindings, and an Ebony Fretboard and bridge.
The Look – The Volcano Inlays on the Peghead and Fretboard were designed by the Master, Mr. Harvey Leach who does awesome art for many top makers and some of the most expensive instruments in the world. The Rosette is figured Redwood with Pau Abalone surrounding the redwood. The top Koa binding is also surrounded by Pau Abalone.
Quality Components and Build – This is a 17 1/32 Scale Tenor ukulele. It has hand split, carved bracing, bone nut and saddle, Gotoh Planetary Tuners (what a pleasure), fret markers, side markers, and is finished in high gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer. The Phoenix - This beautiful Acoustic Bass was commissioned by custom built for Jonathan Kessler. We worked together to develop the blueprint and look of the instrument. It came out awesome.
It is a 5 string fretless bass with a 34" Scale. It has a total length of 49", Lower bout of almost 17" and a depth at the tail of a little over 5" giving it's voice volume and sustain. It has a walnut arm bevel to allow for comfort while playing.
It has a custom shape, flame shaped offset sound holes, and a side sound port to enhance the sound for the player.
It is build from quality woods consisting of a top of Fine Grain Engleman Spruce, a back of Claro Walnut and Sides of Bastogne Walnut. It has a high gloss epoxied Ebony fretboard with custom fret marker and side markers.
It's hardware consists of Gotoh Compact Bass Tuners, dual action truss rod, ebony bridge with Bone Nut and Saddle.
It is equipped with a K&K Pure Mini Bass Guitar Pickup.
Finally it has an inlaid Phoenix on the bottom of the neck heel.
Jonathan has tried several string combinations finally settling on Roto Sound Tape Wounds to get the sound he prefers.

It has hand split spruce bracing, Rosewood fretboard, a three-layer neck of Mahogany-Rosewood-Mahogany, an Ebony bridge. Top binding is Rosewood with W/B purfling and Abalone inlay, bottom binding is B/W/Rosewood. Headblock and Tailblock are from Spanish Cedar. The Port Orford Cedar top has its own unique beauty, The figured redwood with Abalone inlay rosette goes perfectly with the coloring in the top and the rosewood/abalone binding. The saddle and nut are bone. It has a sound port for the player, Waverly tuners, and medium frets on a 17 1/32 scale length. It has fret markers, side markers, and is finished in high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.
